The Wire

Welcome to the Wire

Welcome to our Spring/Summer issue. It's packed with the latest council news and views, practical advice and essential information, as well as things to do if you're out and about around Warrington.

Read on for news about the local elections, the opening of Warrington's Youth café, Birchwood's new bus lane and what's on where you live.

There's plenty of advice too on how to look after yourself and your family this summer, with the spotlight on food safety, bowel cancer, and avoiding fakes and scams.

As The Wire is published, the council's planning committee has approved plans for homes at Omega South and Lingley Mere. Three years ago the Omega site was empty – now it’s home to 5,000 jobs and is a flagship for enterprise in the north west.

Plus, international credit rating agency Moody’s gave Warrington Borough Council the second highest rating possible for the second year running. This puts us on a par with France, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (and above China and Japan) in terms of financial resilience.

Getting this rating has not been easy. Moody’s praised the council’s budget management – all this in the face of massive government cuts.

Enjoy the Wire! And if there's anything you'd like to see in future editions, please let us know.
